Special Election for Mayor Seat and Council Member Seat
The Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will conduct the General Election for the Mayor seat and Council Member seat on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., at the Sandcastle (1 Shipwatch Road, Kiawah Island, SC 29455).
Register to Vote
If you are not registered to vote in South Carolina and would like to vote in in this election, you must register no later than Sunday, March 24, 2024. Voter registration by mail forms will be accepted if postmarked by Monday, March 25, 2024.
Candidate Filing
Candidate filing for the Mayor seat opens on January 19, 2024, at noon and closes on January 29, 2024 at noon.
Candidate filing for the Council Member seat opens at noon on Friday, February 9, 2024 and filing closes at noon on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, due to the office being closed on Monday, February 19, 2024 for President’s Day.

Early Voting
Early voting begins on Monday, April 8, 2024, and ends on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Headquarters (4340 Corporate Rd, North Charleston, SC 29405). The early voting center will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (closed Saturday and Sunday).
Absentee Ballot Examination
The examination of the absentee ballot return envelopes will be examined by the County Board of Voter Registration and Elections at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024 in the Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration office located at 4340 Corporate Rd., North Charleston, SC 29405.
Provisional Ballot Hearing
A hearing will be held to determine the validity of all provisional ballots cast in this election by the County Board of Canvassers at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024. This hearing will take place at the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration office at 4340 Corporate Rd., North Charleston, SC 29405.
